The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines change as, “to make or become different”.
The more time you put in experiencing life, I think the more you come to understand one thing: Change truly is inevitable. It is a constant and consistent part of life experience. Your life can change in a split second and suddenly all you knew foundationally crumbles around you.
Many times, change is thrust upon you and there are times when you actively choose life changes. Any sort of change, chosen or not, can be challenging. Facing change can be a scary prospect as you enter uncharted and unknown territory. Change can trigger strong feelings of vulnerability and lack of safety. Fear can then rear its ugly head, wreaking havoc as stress and anxiety build. Paralysis and rigidity may then begin to settle into your life. When faced with change you may feel frozen, apathetic, or terrified. Or you may feel driven to become controlling and rigid, in an attempt to regain a sense of safety and security.
Yes, the energy of change can be painful and challenging. And this energy also presents you with the opportunity to shift your life and heal aspects of imbalance and disharmony. Change opens the opportunity to create something new and different. It is possible to channel the energy of change into redirecting the trajectory of your life.
When imbalance presents itself there is an innate desire to regain a state of equilibrium. An opportunity for healing is being presented. Healing and growth involve change. Without change, healing, growth, and evolution would not happen. When the energy of change is approached from a conscious and actively aware state of being, you may then wield this powerful force in a more productive manner. Embracing the energy of change as an opportunity to heal, opens the door to empowered shifts in your life, and offers a more balanced state of being.
To begin to take the first steps into shifting your relationship with the energy of change, I suggest engaging in some detective work and exploration. Change. What does that word mean to you? Really breathe into the energy and the essence of change—engaging all your senses. When faced with change, any change, how do you react? What do you think and feel? What thoughts or emotions come up? Is there a theme? Can you find any patterns of reaction? How do you engage the experience of change within your life? How have you historically responded to change? Do you give up and lose hope? Do you hold on tighter than ever? Spending some time holding these questions in contemplation can be extremely enlightening. For, until you come to understand your current dynamic with the energy of change, you will not be able to shift your reactions much less your perception. Time spent coming to more consciously and clearly understand your current dynamic involving change is time well spent. You will be empowered into a growth cycle that guides you further along a healing path that leads to a greater sense of whole health and well-being.
So, the next time you find yourself in the chaotic midst and upheaval of change, try to remember, as painful as change may be, it presents an opportunity for healing and reaching a more balanced state of being.
